District Superintendent Elect

District Superintendent Elect Search Update: Your RMD Search Team has identified a finalist to recommend as our District Superintendent Elect and on February 9th the District Leadership Team voted to recommend him to the RMD delegates at our upcoming Annual Conference. He is Pastor Barry Vegter who is currently serving an EFCA congregation in Wisconsin.

Barry has been invited and accepted our invitation to attend our Annual Spring Conference which is scheduled for April 20-21 at Faith EFC in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Delegates to the conference will have the opportunity to hear from Barry during the Tuesday evening worship service and to participate in a time of Q&A that evening. There will be time for discussion and a vote will be taken as part of our Business Meeting on Wednesday morning.  A “bio” of Barry will be posted on our RMD website.  In addition, delegates who would like to get to know Barry better than will be possible during our Annual Conference are invited by Barry to contact him by calling his cell (920-948-5702) or by emailing him at pbvegter@gmail.com.

If affirmed by the delegates at the Annual Conference Barry will serve as our “District Superintendent Elect”.  The delegates at our 2019 Annual Conference voted for a period of “up to 24 months” during which our current Superintendent, Dr. Greg Fell, will work with the District Superintendent Elect.  This overlap period will allow time for Greg, who will continue to be the lead, to share his knowledge of the churches in the RMD, introduce the DS Elect to the Pastors of the District, and be a resource person.

I would like to thank the members of our RMD Search Team for all the work they have done during this process: Todd Erlandson, Neil Magnuson, Ron Lee, Jake Merriman, & Rex Smithgall.

And thank you to those who have been praying for us during this process. Keep on praying for God’s will to be done — for the good of the churches in our RMD and for His glory!

2021 Annual Conference

Our 2021 Annual conference will be held at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Fort Collins, CO. April 20-21, Noon to noon. We are privileged to have Dr. David Gustafson, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School Associate Professor of Evangelism and Missional Ministry, speaking on gospel witness in a pluralistic society, and how to structure that in a 21st century church.

Shaping a Gospel-Sharing Church:

We all want to be part of Jesus’ commission to make disciples of all people and as leaders in local churches, we want to create churches that help people be part of that commission! Dr. David Gustafson will challenge each of us to be intentional about shaping gospel-sharing churches and we will have the chance to spend time together encouraging each other to do that well!

We will also be introducing and affirming our next District Superintendent, Barry Vegter, who will follow Greg Fell in this role.

Online registration for this conference is now closed. You may register at the door for $60.

Fall Summit

Our Fall Summit this year will focus on changing the Statement of Faith for the Rocky Mountain District.

In 2019 at EFCA One, the Evangelical Free Church changed the National EFCA doctrinal statement from “We believe in the premillennial return of Christ” to “We believe in the glorious return of Christ.

For the Rocky Mountain District of the EFCA to remain a recognized district in the association of the Evangelical Free Church of America, our doctrinal statement must match that of the National EFCA. The churches in the association are not required to change their doctrinal statement if they choose not to.

Our conference will be a time of presentation and discussion before holding a vote at the conference to officially change the RMD doctrinal statement.

We will be meeting at Fellowship Community Church in Centennial, CO on September 17 for this discussion and vote. The conference will begin at 9:30 A.M.

129th Annual Conference

Due to the Covid 19 international crisis, and in cooperation with the Center for Disease Control, by their standards and recommendations we deeply regret that our 129th Annual Conference has been cancelled.

I have been working with your District Leadership Team and our Annual Conference host church, Eaton Evangelical Free Church, trying to decide what is best for our churches and our district as we anticipate our 129th Annual Conference. The Center for Disease Control has suggested no large gatherings of people through sometime in May, and encouraged conference organizers to postpone or cancel any conferences between now and then.

Our District By-laws require us to hold our annual business meeting in April, which is also the beginning of our fiscal year. It is not wise or prudent for us to gather together in Eaton as planned April 28-29. We are, therefore, cancelling the training portion of our conference for 2020.

A letter has been mailed to you church on April 4 from the RMD office with the ballot for our District Leadership Team and the Annual Budget, both items which need to be passed or defeated by our conference. Your Lead Pastor will receive an email with the link for voting to be distributed to the delegates which your church has approved for the conference. nations for our District Leadership Team.

A third business item which is scheduled for our conference is voting on changing the Statement of Faith for the Rocky Mountain District. We want to allow ample time and discussion for this, but we do not have to make a decision on this until the end of 2020. Therefore, we will change the focus of our Fall Summit from a training conference to a business meeting, primarily for discussion and voting on this issue. The date of our Fall Summit is September 17 and will be hosted by Fellowship Community Church in Centennial, CO.

We will continue with our Healthy Church Network meetings, holding them virtually. You will receive a separate email with instructions on how to connect virtually on the normal day of the month and time that you meet in your region for our April Healthy Church network, since we will not be meeting for our annual conference.

Know that I am praying for each and every one of you, as well as for your church. Thank you to the scores who have already registered for the Annual Conference. If you paid online, a refund has been issued through PayPal to the account from which you submitted your payment.

The Lord will use this worldwide challenge to His honor and glory. You will be His ambassador of grace and hope as you take this challenge and use it to turn others to faith and grow closer to our eternal hope and promise. May He protect and encourage us in our faith, spiritual and physical health, as we continue to faithfully serve Him and lead others in His grace.
