Top Ten Things Candidates Do To Mess Up Their Councils!

 

1.  Use poor theological thinking and research

Logical extensions of position

Look up words and ideas

Understand basic connections between ideas

 

2.  Poor use of Scripture

Give Scriptural support

Use appropriate texts

List Scriptures near statements

 

3.  Answer questions that are not asked

Don’t focus on things that are not asked.  (ie: Bible Code, dinosaurs, etc.)

Avoid hobby horses

 

4.  Major on the minors

What is most important?  Deity of Christ or timing of Rapture?

Don’t assume that we will focus on minor issues

 

5.  Become (or begin) confrontational

We are not here to argue nor to attack other groups. 

We are not against you, but we may push you

 

6.  Focus on your local church’s practice

We want to know what you think, not just what your church does.

How would you operate in an ideal situation?

 

7.  Ignore the format requirements

Structure of paper

Writing style

Harder it is for us, harder it is for you

 

8.  Forget the rest of the requirements

Letter from church and school,  etc.  are important

Could hold up the process

 

9.  Forget the doctrinal statement

Focus on the Statement of Faith, not on the questions!

10.  Forget what denomination this is

Do your research ahead of time.  This is not the time to learn about the Free Church, but the time to show that you are with us.
